Group Meeting:  The children checked the beans that we planted yesterday to see if anything had changed.  The beans looked the same as yesterday.  It will take a few more days and some sunshine to make things happen!

Story:  The fairy tale for today was The Ugly Duckling retold by Mara Alperin.   The Ugly Duckling is a Hans Christian Anderson story.  The version that I read was adapted for little children.  A mother duck has five new ducklings, but one doesn't look like the rest.  The other farm animals call him the Ugly Duckling because he is different.  They are not kind to him.  When they fly south for the winter, the other ducks leave him behind.   Ask your child to tell you what happens when the Ugly Duckling grows up.

Small Groups:  The children counted the syllables in words from Jack in the Beanstalk.  They clapped to help them figure out how many parts were in the word.  They marked this on a paper using a dot a dot marker.

Letter Learning:  Aa

Large Group:  After the story, we played Duck, Duck, Swan.

Snack:  The snack for today was cereal, milk, and water.
